Welcome!

The CS GSA is a student organization that is dedicated to promoting research, collaboration, and communication between graduate students. This organization is open to all current and past Rice computer science doctoral and masters students.

What we do:

Our focus is to host events that provide a space for Rice CS graduate students to meet each other and discuss their research. The CS GSA Council members organize a variety of diverse events, aiming to host an event every 1-2 weeks. Some of these events include:

CS GSA Colloquium Series

Presentations on current, innovative research projects are given by Rice CS Professors and guest professors from other distinguished universities.

Journal Club

Journal club is an opportunity to meet with fellow grad students to discuss influential research papers in the field of CS, including classic papers as well as hot topics, in a casual setting — with free food, of course!

ProspectiveTourGraduate Recruitment Weekend

This three-day event focuses on introducing and welcoming prospective PhD students to the CS graduate community. It includes meetings with CS professors, tours around Rice, trips around Houston, and social events with peers.

AllHandsSept2015Town Hall Meetings

Town Hall is an annual forum where graduate students have the opportunity to discuss and speak up about problems facing the department, ranging from classes and advisors to general logistics and wellbeing.

Snack Times

All CS students and faculty are welcomed to socialize, snack, and caffeinate at these casual events held once a month. The CS GSA understands the importance of coffee and is here to support you in your addiction.

Happy HoursValholla 2

The CS GSA believes in “work hard, play hard.” Therefore, once a month the CS GSA hosts a Happy Hour at Valhalla, the campus graduate student bar.

Grab your boots and saddle up because this is Texas, and our CS GSA throws at least one BBQ each semester.
